Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park
Description
Did you know that every year, more than six million hooves thunder across the legendary plains of the Serengeti, marking one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on Earth? We call it the Great Migration. Driven by seasonal rains, over a million wildebeest, 200,000 zebras, and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelles embark on a remarkable journey in search of greener pastures.
This awe-inspiring migration includes the dramatic rutting season—a three-week frenzy of mating and territorial battles. It is soon followed by a test of survival as 40-kilometer-long columns of wildebeest brave crocodile-infested rivers during their annual pilgrimage north. In a breathtaking display of nature’s rhythm, more than 8,000 calves are born each day, fueling the cycle of life before the 1,000-kilometer odyssey begins again.
The Serengeti -Tanzania’s oldest and most iconic national park—is also a haven for predators and endangered species. Its expansive plains are home to a rich population of lions and elusive leopards, as well as endangered black rhinos and vulnerable cheetahs. With over 500 species of birds and 100 types of dung beetles, the Serengeti is a sanctuary of biodiversity. After the rains, the golden plains transform into a lush green landscape adorned with wildflowers. Scenic woodlands, towering termite mounds, ancient granite kopjes, and acacia-lined rivers create a mesmerizing backdrop for wildlife viewing.
